Pick a money-back bet for Schalke v Real Madrid

There are more European Champions League matches on Wednesday, Feb. 18 with Spanish La Liga’s Real Madrid taking on Schalke 04 of the German Bundesliga. Madrid, of course, is the reigning European Champion after beating cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid last year in the final with a 4-1 win in extra time. Real Madrid travels to Gelsenkirchen for this match, which is a repeat of last year’s knockout round tie. Madrid hammered Schalke 6-1 in last campaign’s first leg and won the series 9-2 on aggregate.

With Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo as their top attacking trio Real Madrid is going to be hard to stop. These three are known as BBC by Spanish fans, but Ronaldo has been in a bit of a slump lately. He’s scored just four times since the turn of the year and his recent suspension for a red card seems to have slowed him down. The team is coming off a 2-0 win over Deportivo last Saturday, but the Portuguese star was kept off the score sheet.

Schalke sits fourth in the Bundesliga and will want some sort of revenge for last year’s humiliation in this tie. They will need Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar back in the lineup though as he missed last week’s training due to a virus. It looks like the Germans side will use 19-year-old goaltender Timon Wellenreuther since Fabian Giefer isn’t fully fit and Ralf Faehrmann is also expected to miss the match with an injury.

For Real Madrid, James Rodriguez, Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos, Sami Khedira and Fabio Coentrao are all expected to miss the clash with injuries. This is the 18th straight year Real Madrid has reached the round of 16, which is a tournament record. Schalke has made it this far four times in the past five years. Real Madrid is the only side to win all six of their group games and are hoping to keep that winning streak alive. If Real wins this match it will be their 10th straight Champions League win, equaling the record set by fellow Bundesliga side Bayern Munich in 2013.
