Man United 3/1 to beat Sunderland

Manchester United will be trying to hang onto fourth place in the English Premier League when they host Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday, Feb. 28th. United lost their last outing 2-1 at Swansea and can’t afford to drop any more points if they hope to earn a spot in the European Champions League next season. United has lost just two games out of the last 20, but still don’t have much of a grip on fourth place. However, they’ve dropped only seven points at home this season in 13 league contests.

As usual, Sunderland is struggling again this season under manager Gus Poyet, but now have a legitimate scoring threat in Jermain Defoe. Sunderland has just four league wins this campaign and drop too many points by constantly drawing games. They lead the league in draws this season with 13, which means 26 points have been lost right there. This is one reason they sit in 16th place in the league with 25 points from 26 outings and are just three points ahead of the relegation zone. United and Sunderland played to a 1-1 draw earlier this season at the Stadium of Light.

United will be without striker Robin Van Persie while Michael Carrick is questionable. Sunderland may be missing Emmanuele Giaccherini, Jack Rodwell and Will Buckley from the midfield. United has allowed eight goals in their past 11 home league games with three clean sheets. They’ve also won 10, drawn two and lost just once in their past 10 at home against Sunderland. The Black Cats have just 10 goals for in their past 15 league contests with four of them being in the last three away fixtures.
