England 3/1 to beat Lithuania in Euro qualifier

England continues their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign on Friday. March 27 when they host Lithuania at Wembley Stadium in a Group E showdown. England tops the group with 12 points from four wins while Lithuania has six points and are in fourth place with two victories and two defeats. Lithuania is level with Slovenia and Switzerland on points in second place, but are behind them on goal difference. England has scored 11 times in their qualifying matches and allowed one while Lithuania has scored three and allowed six.

This is the very first meeting between the two nations at the senior level. England is an undefeated string of 23 games on the line Euro and World Cup qualifying with 16 victories and seven draws. Their last loss was in 2009 when Ukraine beat them 1-0. The last time England was beaten at home in a qualifier was in2007 when Croatia beat them 3-2. Lithuania has just a pair of wins in their past 10 competitive away matches.

England manager Roy Hodgson will have to do without striker Daniel Sturridge and midfielder Adam Lallana of Liverpool as the pair pulled out of the squad. The 25-year-old Sturridge suffered a hip injury after scoring against Manchester United in Liverpool’s 2-1 home loss on March 22. Lallana was also injured in the same contest with a groin problem. This will open the door for 21-year-old Spurs striker Harry Kane as he makes his England debut.

Kane scored a hat trick on March 22nd against Leicester City in a league outing and now leads all Premier League players this season with 29 goals in all competitions. Twenty-three-year-old midfielder Ryan Mason of Spurs was called up as a replacement for Lallana. In addition, England have seen Spurs defender Danny Rose pull out of the squad as well as Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster and Manchester United defender Luke Shaw. All players are citing injuries as the reason.
